International Port Strategy
This course is a collaboration between APEC, your trusted knowledge partner in the port and maritime industry, Antwerp Management School – C-MAT, Antwerp’s international reference for port and maritime academics linked with the University of Antwerp, and IAPH, the International Association of Ports and Harbors. Through this partnership, we will present a mix of experienced port professionals, academics and global policy makers on the international aspects of port strategy and management.
WHY THIS COURSE?
Ports are nodal points in the global supply chain, gateways between land and sea. In an ever-changing world, ports must respond to worldwide, regional and local challenges. The past year has taught us more than ever the vital role of ports within the global economy. The crucial function of ports for a country’’s welfare, asks for resilience, and the need for an international strategy to whitstand in times of crisis, trade wars and geopolitical shifts.
Identifying its development environment, creating a unique position that differentiates from the competitors, specifying an international port strategy, and effective executing are essential to your port’s global development.
In this course, we will reflect on the major global macro-economic and geopolitical trends and analyse their impact on port platforms, from changing global supply chains, to digitisation, climate change and the energy transition. Furthermore, we will zoom in on regional differences and realities in the port sector in China, India, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Europe. Finally, we will evaluate different international strategies within the port industry, and help you to design your own strategy on the international scene.

The agenda of the course will be communicated before the start. Over the 8 weeks, there will be 70 study hours in a combination of readings, recorded content and live sessions. The live sessions will be planned to best suit the availability of the participants as they are an essential part of the learning experience. The sessions offer a unique opportunity to interact with our experts and your co-participants. They serve as a moment of review and discussion of your progress and assignments.
