Why

In today’s rapidly changing global landscape, the significance of port master planning has become paramount. With shifts in trade patterns, technological advancements, and growing environmental considerations, port authorities are facing various challenges. Navigating these intricacies demands a strategic approach that reaches beyond immediate solutions and embraces a forward-thinking perspective.

The primary objective of this blended programme is to empower decision-makers within port authorities and governmental bodies by providing them with the tools to translate a port’s vision into a comprehensive port development plan including the design, planning and implementation of future port lay-outs, operational processes and organizational changes.

  • This program is targeted towards experienced port professionals who are facing challenges related to making the right decisions in short-, medium- and long-term developments and investments in a port.
  • Executive directors and managers that are active in overall port management, port (development) strategy, regional development strategy (with ports as a driver for regional development), planning & development (commercial and infrastructure) and port relations (port-government-communities).

Participants will explore all facets of a masterplan, ranging from its role as a strategic, technical, commercial, and communication tool, while also gaining insights into the process of masterplan development.

Definition of port development requirements

  • Definition of functional, operational and performance requirements of the futured port development  

Strategic plan as the blueprint for a masterplan

  • Establishment of the port’s vision, mission, and strategy
  • Translation these conceptual elements into tangible and specific objectives

Designing port development options from a multidisciplinary view

  • Design of different development options 
  • Evaluation of the development options based on technical, environmental, social and legislative criteria 
  • Selection of the preferred development option

Review of existing situation and forecasting

  • Review of existing infrastructure
  • Analysis of maritime, environmental, technical and social trends and their impact on ports
  • Trade and traffic forecasting

Implementation and monitoring

  • Drawing up a implementation plan
  • Phasing, resource management, procurement and investment, monitoring
